Why This Project Began
The Health Reform Workshop has grown out of a shared belief among contributors that Australia’s health system is entering a period of serious decline and that too many of the people working within it have been left carrying the consequences in silence.
When Leadership Stops Leading
There comes a point in any failing system when the greatest danger is no longer only underfunding, workforce shortage or rising demand. The greatest danger becomes leadership that has stopped acting as part of the solution and has instead become part of the problem.
When Essential Care Becomes Leverage
Another concern raised by contributors is the way governments can become trapped in a cycle of pressure from parts of the health and care sector that know exactly how much public authorities fear disruption.
Tasmanias Heart Health Crisis
North-West Tasmanians are being asked to place their faith in a health system that is increasingly unable to provide timely care when they need it most. Emergency departments are missing critical targets, ambulance shifts remain unfilled, specialist heart and stroke services are concentrated outside the region, and many patients struggle to obtain rehabilitation and practical support after leaving hospital.
